October 30 and November 3, 2018--Dubrovnik, Croatia
We had both been here before (Cap several times), as have many of you, so these two visits are combined into one.

In the Konavle region, at the small town of Ljuta south of Dubrovnik, an entire system of mills, canals, and aquaducts was built in the 16th century on the Ljuta ('Angry') River. This lovely woman at the mills is wearing traditional Croatian dress, some element of which shows whether or not she is available (Cap neglected to find out which element that was). She provided dried figs, candied almonds and lemon and orange peel, as we toured two mills. We were also treated to prosciutto and cheese sandwiches, with wine.
The flour mill ground grain, and the hammer mill was used to compress cotton fibers so that the woven fabric would hold together. The Ljuta River was flowing over its banks the day we were there, the result of much rain the day before.

Other fun sights in Dubrovnik: Trying to get a piece of construction equipment in place in Old Town, and young boys learning sculling (coach is nearby, but they obviously need to work on coordination).
