October 31-November 2, 2018 -- Venice, Italy
We heard and read about the major flooding from rain and wind in Venice two days before we were scheduled to arrive, but by the time we sailed in, most of the water was gone. It was a beautiful day for sailing in, and we thoroughly enjoyed a boat trip to both Murano and Burano, two islands in the Venice Lagoon.![]() |

The Murano glass-blowing factory was commercial, as we expected, but it was fun to watch this veteran glass blower fashion this prancing horse in less than two minutes.
Burano is a charming island fishing village in the Venice Lagoon, with houses painted many different colors, ostensibly to help sailors home from the sea find their own home. There are 'senior' ladies working on beautiful lace, and we were there on Halloween, with adorable kids trick-or-treating at the merchants on the main street.

The evening we sailed the four of us enjoyed a beautiful 7-course wine-paired dinner at La Reserve, a specialty restaurant for just this kind of experience.
