Sunday, October 28, 2018 -- Argostoli (Kefalonia) Greece

A low-key stop at Agrostoli on the Ionian island of Kefalonia took us to St. Andrew's Monastery (Orthodox chapel from the 14th century, monastery founded in 16th century, rebuilt more than once), to Robola Winery, and a brief stop at the small town of Keramides. Not a particularly pretty day, so photos aren't the best.

This pretty little chapel is reputed to contain the 'sole' of St. Andrew (seriously, that's the claim for the relic displayed), and has preserved many of the icons from the 1350s (below).

Onward to Robola Winery, past many hillsides covered  in vineyards interspersed with olive trees.

Robolo Winery is a modern, high-production, export-oriented operation, but shows its roots with this old wine press.

Grapes are dumped in the auger below, and processed on this modern equipment.

In the small town of Keramides, we saw lots of examples of backyard agriculture--honey bees, chickens, and lot of fruit. Not only were there olive and citrus trees on every corner, but one home had a pomegranate tree, an avocado tree, and even a banana tree (Really? A banana tree in Greece?).
The lovely mermaid was front yard art.
